Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. - Psalm 119:105

The Book of Psalms

The Book of Psalms, also called the "Psalter", is a hymnbook of 150 prayer and praise songs for stringed instruments (like the harp, lyre, and lute). The Hebrew name, "Tehillim," means "The Book of Praise."

Many of the Psalms date back to the early years of the Hebrews' wandering in the Desert, as they were beginning to learn how to worship this Mysterious, Astonishing, and Powerful God who delivered them from slavery and was mostly new to them. There have been many inspired authors, including Moses, David, Solomon, Asaph, the sons of Korah, and many that are anonymous with variety and unity. They are about how we come before God, our simple trust in times of trouble, and the veracity of sin and conviction.

The Psalms were developed for worship and for the devotional life. Many come from those who truly surrendered themselves to God with the earliest being from Abraham, perhaps, with a few prior to Moses and most coming from David's writing or from the collection through Solomon.

Are you willing to learn about the Psalms, its purpose and the incredible impact they have on our Christian growth? We will take a deeper look so we can be inspired to nurture more in our relationship with Christ.

We will have an Inductive Bible Study, then examine the reasoning, word meanings, and the contexts of each Psalm. In conjunction, what it meant to early Jews and the rest of Scripture. We will have notes and inductive tools that you can access through your smartphone or tablet.

The bottom line in the Psalms is that the choice of how to live your life is yours; you have the choice to be blessed, as a tree nourished by His Living Water (John 7:37-39) or perish as the chaff that is worthless and blows away (Matt. 3:12; 10:34-39; 13:47-50). You can have the high road or skid row; to be blessed or seek self-destruction; to be in Christ or to be away from Him! How will you now live? God has given you the abundant life, but you still have to reach for it and apply it by faith and obedience. The godly will always choose to allow God to direct their lives. He charts our course; it is the best course and plan conceivable, far beyond any hope we could have on our own. So, allow yourself to be directed by the God and Creator of the universe-not your feeble ways!

Make God's Word a significant part of your life so you are infused with His Truth, and so the Spirit is firm and impacting in you! Then, you can impact others with His character and precepts.
